A familiar restaurant, a new chapter
Long before the El Trompo name arrived in Ypsilanti, neighbors knew this restaurant as Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant & Cantina. Historical business records and customer reviews document its presence in the area as far back as 2006.
The name mattered because the restaurant had become part of people's routines: meals with family, celebrations with friends, and familiar faces welcoming guests back.
When the restaurant adopted the El Trompo name, not everyone immediately welcomed the change. But the important part never changed: the same family owners, the same managers, and the same food. The name now connects the Michigan restaurant with the broader El Trompo family.
And the story is still growing, with another Michigan El Trompo location planned. More details will be shared when confirmed.
